Wednesday, March 6

Just a quick update.  Classes are going well - we just had a few midterm exams and essays, so it is nice to have those done.  I am really enjoying the classes.  Right now we are reading Dante's Divine Comedy in Humanities, and I absolutely love it.  Poetics is also an interesting class - I didn't think that I would enjoy poetry as much as I do.  We have been focusing primarily on the poetry of Robert Frost, and will begin to look more at Richard Wilbur next.  Latin is probably my biggest challenge just because I didn't have any Latin experience prior except what I was able to teach myself over Christmas break.  But I have found with both Latin and Italian, that because I am immersed in both (Latin is an immersion class, and obviously I am constantly immersed in Italian) I am able to pick up quite a lot.  It is exciting to be able to follow along with our Latin reading, and even more exciting to be able to understand conversations in Italian; although I still need to work on my ability to respond.  Now I can go to Mass in Italian and actually understand the majority of the homily!  Theology is another good class, it really gets us delving deep into the Bible and into the history of the early Church as we study St. Paul.  I think that my favorite class is probably Art and Architecture, because we just get to go on so many fantastic tours.  Yesterday we went to the catacombs of San Callisto, which was fascinating.  The internships are also proving to be a real blessing - it is such a privilege to be working in the heart of the Church at this historic time.
The real news this week though, is that tomorrow I am leaving for our spring break trip to Poland!  I am beyond excited for the trip!  We are going to be going to Warsaw, Czestochowa, and Krakow among other places, so it should be a great trip!  I will fill you in on all the details when I get back!  Until then, have a wonderful week!
